You may use these models for personal or commercial use, just not for stock or resale in any way. I have made a .lib4d file so you can load these models into your Cinema 4D Content Browser and easily access the models at any time!

NOTE: The Welcome Mat model uses the Hair Render engine, so you have to have the hair module.

I’ve been thinking about it a lot. This seems to be more and more common, especially in our industry. We are being swept up in the pressures and speed of our world and are being gutted, cleaned out and washed up by our thirties. This is pretty disconcerting for all of us. So the question is, how are we supposed to make this career a long term game, not just a sprint to the burned out premature finish line where we are forced out because we simply can’t do it anymore.

For me my relief is nature. Camping, fishing, getting away, leaving the cell phone at home. I just got back from a week long canoeing adventure and feel much refreshed. I think it’s incredibly important for each of us to find the thing that recharges us and make sure we don’t forgo it because of the pressure of our job. Our longevity and career depend on it.

So I have some questions for you to answer in the comments:

1. Do you feel like you’re in the same boat as Robert?

2. How many hours do you usually work a week (I work about 50-60 a lot of the year).

3. What can you do to avoid a devastating, tail spinning burn out? Take a vacation? Find a new job? Ask to work from home to avoid commuting hours? (I turn off the computer/cell phone and go into nature).

Whatever it is, make it happen. Stand up for yourself and figure it out. Our work is important and it defines a lot of us, but there is more to life than our careers. I would love to hear your input!

We chose “Summer” as the subject for the contest, which will give you lots of room to play with. So here’s what to do: Find some inspiration on google images that relates to “Summer” (could be anything, beach, travel, sports, sun, islands, whatever relates to summer fun in your mind) and model your idea from scratch in C4D.

The winner will get one 3D model pack of their choice from The Pixel Lab. I will package up the best entries and I will make them available for free download on my website!

1. You have till the end of the June to create your model/models. Entries must be submitted by June 30th.

2. Your submission must include: The C4D project file with textures and at least one high resolution render of the model. Everything should be in a .zip file that is e-mailed or sent to joren@thepixellab.net

3. You must model, texture and light your scene.

4. Do not use copyrighted materials, such as logos, textures, images etc. that you do not own. Use sites like cgtextures.com or sxc.hu etc. for free images to use while texturing or create your own. We will be sharing the models with everyone, so they can’t have copyrighted material, plugins etc. in them or they will be disqualified.

5. By submitting a model you are granting permission for me to give the models away for free if you win. These models can be used by the community for commercial or personal use.

6. If possible, don’t make your objects editable, so that people can see how you modeled it, learn from it, and make any changes they need to easily.

His latest plugin, MagicEye, is a quick tool to help create eyes for your C4D characters. You can easily create an eye, change parameters like color, style, material presets, pupil sizes for animating dilation, a target to move the eyes, eyelids which you can quickly animate to blink etc. He’s thought of it all! Make sure to grab it if you ever do any character work, it’s a really fun tool!
