3D Modeling Contest #6: Vintage/Retro

Pixel Lab Contest

We’re going to launch a fresh contest! This modeling contest is going to get everyone involved and help us to really stretch ourselves and learn new things. Here are the details:

We chose “Vintage/Retro” as the subject for the contest, which will give you lots of room to play with. One great way to find inspiration is type in “Vintage Object” or “Retro Object” in google images. There are tons of awesome ideas!

The winner will get one 3D model pack of their choice from The Pixel Lab. I will package up the best entries and I will make them available for free download on my website!

1. You have one month to create your model/models. Entries must be submitted by the last day of February.

2. Your submission must include: The C4D project file with textures and at least one high resolution render of the model. Everything should be in a .zip file that is e-mailed or sent to [email protected]

3. You must model, texture and light your scene.

4. Do not use copyrighted materials, such as logos, textures, images etc. that you do not own. Use sites like cgtextures.com or sxc.hu etc. for free images to use while texturing or create your own. We will be sharing the models with everyone, so they can’t have copyrighted material, plugins etc. in them or they will be disqualified.

5. By submitting a model you are granting permission for me to give the models away for free if you win. These models can be used by the community for commercial or personal use.

6. If possible, don’t make your objects editable, so that people can see how you modeled it, learn from it, and make any changes they need to easily.

If you have any questions, let me know. Otherwise, good luck, and happy modeling!

Sounds like a great contest Joren!

Question: from what year back is considered retro or vintage? Is twenty years ago considered retro or vintage… I think cars are considered antiques by twenty years…

I mean I know what my parents think vintage means or retro. lol Not quite the same starting year back for me.

      Just trying to clarify.

        Just found this on Wikipedia:

Retro is a term used to describe aspects of modern culture which are consciously derivative or imitative of those trends, modes, fashions, or attitudes of the recent past which have or had come to be seen as unfashionable. It generally implies a vintage of at least fifteen or twenty years.

But is that what you mean by retro/vintage. Or do you mean even older stuff?

      • Joren

Hey mate, honestly it doesn’t really matter, pretty much anything that comes up if you type in “vintage object” in google images. Probably something 40 years ago or more I would think…

Hey Joren, this sounds like an amazing project! Must give it a go. Im currently working on a retro style animation based on Road Runner and Bugs Bunny cartoons in C4D and VrayforC4D. Here’s a look at some of the vehicles…https://www.behance.net/wip/32777/757421

Just looked at your work. I really like the way you modeled the vehicles. They have a very “Chuck Jones” slant to them. Your work & style are great. I’ll follow your site just to see the finished piece. 🙂
