In this Cinema 4D tutorial I’ll show you how to use Maxon’s brand new After Effects to C4D plugin. I’ll go over an example of the workflow and give you some ideas of how to use it. Here’s the link for the plugin: maxon.net/en/downloads/updates/plugins.html
Hi Joren.
A VERY useful plugin.
And the Camera Tracker by The Foundry tutorial
idea – YES : )
Very cool stuff. I’ve used the old AEtoC4D plug-in and yeah, it’s messy at best (not terrible. Got the job done at the end of the day, but it required a lot of patience and tweaking). This definitely seems FAR nicer at the offset.
My biggest wish though would be to have it bring in AE text layers as MoText objects with the same transform keyframes, font, kerning, etc. That would be a pretty amazing workflow changer (and is it too much to wish for AE text animators to somehow be applied as well?)
Great stuff!
+1 for the Cameratracker tutorial!
Thanks for the tutorial, just installed the plugin yesterday. This plugin couldn’t have come at a better time!
Another +1 for Cameratracker tutorial!
hi very cool tips .but some thing wrong on my computer ,where exacly do you put the pluggin , because i ve got c4d 11.5 and after effect cs5 and in the list export files , to c4d don t appire ?
thank
Make sure you download the right plugin, there is a different one for every version of AE and C4D. Then find your applications folder, find your adobe after effects folder, and drop the plugin into the “plugins” folder. Makes sure it’s the Cinema4DAE.plugin file, not a .zip file or anything like that. That should do the trick, if not, you may need to contact Maxon support. Cheers! Joren
plezz tell where i can find the plugin for aftereffect CS6 to C4D R14 (the link plzzz)
I knowyou are not maxon tech support, but I was wondering if anyone else had this problem: I am using AE CS4 and C4D 12
I download the proper plugin from the maxon site, I place it in the appropriate folder and it doesn’t work. The plugin for CS4 is just titled “C4D.plugin” not “Cinema4DAE.plugin” Any ideas?
C4D.plugin is used to import into AE CS4 from C4D.
The AE to C4D export is called C4DExporter.plugin and is, as far as I’m aware, for C4D R13 only.
Yeah this plugin is only compatible with R13.
Thanks for the tip, Joren! And yes, never render quicktime movies!
Great plug-in, and great tutorial!
Can you tell us where is the cool burn-film texture from?
I believe I found those here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9C_KYtEaN98
Thanks! 😀
If you put the plugin in After Effects and export to cinema4d – version 12 will open the file – the plugin seems not to right a version number into the cinema4d file
HI THERE IS ONE PROBLEM I FACED.
WHY CAN’T YOU EXPORT AFTER EFFECTS TEXT INTO CINEMA 4D,
I EVEN CONVERTED MY TEXT TO SHAPES, BUT STILL NOTHING.
WHEN I OPEN CINEMA 4D, ALL I SEE IS MY CAMERA MOVES AND NULL I MADE IN AFTER EFFECTS.
PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THERE IS ANOTHER WAY AROUND THIS,
HHHEEEEELPPPPP…
I found page because I was looking for that same feature. Being able to import AE Text to Cinema 4d would be huge for my workflow. I wonder if Cineware can do this.
Hey Carter, unfortunately that is not possible. The transfer only recognizes “solids” “nulls” and “lights” at this point. Hopefully they will update that sometime. But for now you just have to make motext in C4D and place it where you want it. Shouldn’t be too much extra work hopefully!
Cheers,
Joren
Do you know if the plugin can transfer ai or psd files into C4D so that they show up just like solids do?
I haven’t tried Ai files, but I know if it’s a .PSD it will create a layer in C4D and put that .PSD on it, with an alpha if it has one, so it’s all set up. Is that what you mean?
Yes, that is exactly what I meant thank you. Wow, this plugin sounds amazing. Cheers for your help.
Joren – Thanks for this tutorial.
I just tried this plugin with R12 Broadcast and it works. This will come in very handy.
[…] In this supersized tutorial series, I’m going to go over the workflow to complete a 3D track using the new Foundry Camera Tracker in After Effects. In this first part we will go over the After Effects side of things. In the next tutorial we will head over into Cinema 4D where we will add 3D objects using the 3D track data! This is an amazing workflow, made possible by the Foundry Camera Tracker and the new Maxon Cinema4D Export plugin for After Effects. You can watch my Cinema4D Export plugin tutorial here: thepixellab.net/cinema-4d-tutorial-ae-c4d-maxon-plugin […]
THANKS FOR LESSON

I am trying to get project to export from AE CS5 to C4D R12 through the export function (OSX). I have downloaded to correct plugin called aftereffects3-5.zip and installed the plugin into the plugin folder under After effects cs5. But I cannot get it to give the export option. I have also tried placing it in the format folder. but with no luck. Can you help? THanks.
hi i have the same problem with ian. but im using c4d r11.5 and ae cs5. can you help us?
Hey guys, sounds like some of you are having problems with the plugin. I’m sorry but I don’t really know what the problem is since it worked for me doing the same thing I told you to do. I honestly have no idea, so I would suggest writing Maxon help about it? Sorry I don’t have a better answer,
Good luck! Cheers,
Joren
Thanks Joren for the response. I actually ended up emailing Maxon Support. They sent me back a zip file with new plugins. I dropped them in, and it works great. Thanks for the tutorial, good stuff!

Hiya, Does anyone know if you can use the Maxon exporter with C4D 12 and CS5.5?
Sure. Just download the r13 version, and use chose the c4dexporter, instead of cinema4dAE.
Hi,
is it only me who gets the groundplane and orientation messed up? The origin is offset and the solids/nulls doesn´t line up properly in Cinema, though everything looks accurate in AE..
Yeah I’m having the same problem too. When I open up the project in C4D, the solid I had created in AE doesn’t appear in the right orientation and place. It sure is messed up! I couldn’t manage to solve the problem.
I’m using AE CS5.5 and C4D12.. Could it be related to that??
Hey guys!
I’m running CS4 and 11.5 (sux I know) and I made sure I downloaded the proper plugin listed on Maxon’s site. I put the plugin in AE’s plugin folder and restarted AE. No dice.
Does anyone know if there is a working plugin out there for these older versions?
Any help would be appreciated BIGTIME.
My Orientation is also messed up, does anybody have a solution for this problem?????
Hello Guys i have one doubt
Does this plugin skips the rendering part in Cinema 4d? Does this avoid the long time rendering in Cinema 4d?
Thanks and sorry for my bad english
No, you still have to render all of the frames in Cinema. This just brings in the camera, lights, and null data so you can have more flexibility.
The URL for the plugins on Maxon’s website is outdated, here is the new link:

Thanks, Aaron!
i try to export to c4d, it works but the plan and the object are not in there proper place. the camera tracker move correctly.. Any issue?
I think it might be a problem with R12 and it might work in R13?
Maybe you are right cause i use the r12 i’ll try the r13. Thanks for the quick answer!
any of you guys figure this out? I assume its cuz we’re working with R12 but if you figured out a fix let me know!
hello to every one here !!
