7 Sites for Free 3D Models

I found 7 sites that have really awesome and 100% free 3D models. Make sure to only search for .obj, .3ds or Cinema files since some models only come in Maya or Max formats. Also make sure to check the copyright info to make sure you’re good to go on all of these.

1. Turbo Squid

This is the premiere place to find 3D models. They have a huge paid section, but if you simply type “free” into the search, it will come up with hundreds of awesome free models. www.turbosquid.com

2. Exchange 3D

This has quite the collection, with a little bit of everything from cars and trees to furniture and interior models. http://www.exchange3d.com

3. TheFree3DModels

A great resource with tons of characters and cars. http://thefree3dmodels.com

4. DMI 3D

This site has amazing vehicles, anything from WWII tanks to modern race cars. A lot of them come in .lwo format which is Lightwave, but they open great in C4D. http://www.dmi-3d.net/

5. Oyonale

A little resource but a nice range of high quality models. http://www.oyonale.com

6. 3Delicious

A little bit spammy, but if you can get to the models they looks great. They have cars, furniture and technology among others. http://www.3delicious.net/

7. NASA Space Models

This is pretty funny, NASA actually has a model library of everything space, from models of astronauts to lunar modules to shuttles. Some aren’t the most detailed, but if you need some space objects, this is a great place to check out. http://www.nasa.gov

  1. Hi,

Just came across your site, and I like it very much. Already got good info about c4d random colours and using a slider with wiggle(thanks so much for that).

However, I,m puzzled by your FREE 3D MODELS SITES list; All I see are your comments – NOT the sites nor their links or logos. Is it my browser (explorer)?
I,m always on the lookout for good and free models to modify – would love to figure out this issue. Thanks ahead of time,

  2. Hey Robert, thanks for your comment. Glad to hear you’re getting useful information from the site! The titles of the posts were links, but maybe there was a compatibility issue. I added another link at the end of the comments for each post. Hopefully that works for you! Thanks for checking out the site, make sure to keep checking back, I have lots of great content coming up! Cheers, Joren

Tose are mainly architecture and furniture models but you also can find, cars, people and some other cool stuff. Most of the models are pretty detailed.

    Cheers.

One word of caution of Turbosquid. Their QA is horrid, and while you won’t find me complaining of free models their pay for use models are less than satisfactory a good portion of the time.

Not only are the model’s geometry at times subpar, but packages can be missing textures and other files. On top of all that, I’ve never seen TS return a support request to address the situation.

  5. Hi Joren,

I really like your list of free 3d models, well done. 🙂 Just would like your opinion on a new game asset site on the block called propsplanet. Propsplanet is a game asset marketplace with WebGL support and preview developed to help game developers and I think it offers creative game models to game developers working on different genres. The site is fairly new and still growing. Do you mind having a look and letting me know what you think?

    Kind Regards,

  7. They do their models in collaboration with Autodesk.
