Quickly Set up SSS (Subsurface Scattering) in Octane for C4D
Super quick tip for Otoy Octane beginners on setting up a waxy SSS (subsurface scattering) material. If you want to know how to do it in Cinema 4D I showed how to do that in my last tutorial.
If you’re using diffuse material and transmission I think you’ll find that its not SSS you’re seeing but just volume transparency. i.e. the material is lighter wherever its thinner. Like deep water etc.
You have to have a medium for true sss and possibly a specular material and path tracing. However, the fast fake sss looks great, so who cares right?

Great little tip as per usual Joren!
Thanks for the input Roger, you’re definitely right. I’m all about fast rendering, fast setup fakery that looks pretty good 🙂
